LEXUS IS SAFETY

LEXUS IS SAFETY

REASSURANCE

The best form of protection is prevention. To this end, the IS comes equipped with some of today’s most advanced safety measures to keep you and your passengers safe.

A WARNING FLASH OF LIGHT

A WARNING FLASH OF LIGHT

When your vehicle is travelling at higher speeds, the need to brake suddenly can create a potentially dangerous situation for any cars behind you.

In the IS, if you need to brake suddenly, the rear LED brake lights will flash rapidly with a pulsing effect to warn drivers behind you and help to improve their reaction speed.

SYSTEMS THAT 'TALK' TO EACH OTHER

SYSTEMS THAT 'TALK' TO EACH OTHER

Each IS model is fitted with Lexus' advanced Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) which co-ordinates control of the electronic safety features like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Anti-lock Brakes System (ABS).

This cooperative control allows for each safety system to 'talk' to the other to share information and work together to keep the vehicle on track.

Surprisingly though, the driver will rarely even know VDIM is working, such is the seamless integration it provides between each safety system.

INNOVATIVE PEDESTRIAN SENSING SAFETY BONNET

INNOVATIVE PEDESTRIAN SENSING SAFETY BONNET

The bonnet structure is not only sportier looking, but looks out for the safety of any wayward pedestrians.

The vehicle is able to determine when a pedestrian or other moveable objects has been collided with based on signals from sensors in a polyethylene chamber within the front bumper.

If the system is activated, the bonnet pops up approximately 70mm to provide a cushioning deformation zone and help absorb collision impact, helping reduce the risk of pedestrian injury.

In addition, an impact absorbing structure in the front end of the bonnet offers further pedestrian protection.

GREATER VISIBILITY

GREATER VISIBILITY

Enjoy further confidence behind the wheel of the IS when you're parking thanks to the Reversing Camera3 with Rear Guide Assist (RGA)3, which shows you what's behind the rear bumper and can predict where the vehicle will go with helpful guidance lines.

HEIGHTENED PROTECTION SURROUNDS YOU

HEIGHTENED PROTECTION SURROUNDS YOU

In the event of an accident, you will feel reassured by the extra protection of ten Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) airbags, a standard feature in the IS.

The full complement of ten airbags includes front airbags, front seat knee airbags, seat mounted side airbags and curtain shield airbags designed to protect driver and passengers alike.

In addition, front and knee airbags for the driver and front passenger work together to achieve a better distribution of the loads that impact the body during an accident.

TECHNOLOGY THAT LENDS A HAND

TECHNOLOGY THAT LENDS A HAND

When you are stopped at the lights or parked on an upslope, the time it takes you to move your foot from the brake to the accelerator may be enough to allow the vehicle to roll backwards.

The IS removes this worry with the inclusion of Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)9.

F SPORT & SPORTS LUXURY

WATCHING OUT FOR YOUR BLIND SPOTS

WATCHING OUT FOR YOUR BLIND SPOTS

It can be difficult in traffic to see if there is another vehicle or motorcycle in the lane next to you so it's good to know these potentially dangerous blind spots are monitored in the IS F Sport and Sports Luxury with a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)8 to give you added peace of mind.

When a vehicle is detected in a blind spot alongside you, the indicator in the mirror on that side illuminates, which is particularly helpful when changing lanes.

Meanwhile, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)8 detects vehicles crossing the difficult-to-see area behind the vehicle when reversing, sounding a buzzer and flashing the BSM indicators in the outer mirrors.
